Avivo settings are now correctly displayed in the AMD Vision Engine Control Center after connecting a secondary display.

Windows Media Player no longer randomly hangs or displays a black screen after playing VC1 (WMV) video files for over 4 hours.

PowerDVD no longer crashes intermittently after enabling / disabling Crossfire during BD playback.

Bioshock no longer displays visual corruption with Vsynch and MLAA enabled.

Transcoding MPEG-2 video to H.264 no longer causes an application crash.

Transcoding H.264 to AVCHD no longer generates lagging video.

Resolved Issues for the Windows XP Operating System

Civilization V no longer stops responding during game launch when Crossfire is enabled.

AMD just released new Catalyst drivers.

The new drivers will bring with them support for AMD's new Fusion "Llano" A-series accelerated processing units (APUs), which embed AMD Radeon HD 6000 series GPU components. The drivers are WHQL-signed, but if you're particular about knowing what changes they bring, wait for the release notes.

AMD releases Catalyst 11.11 drivers, adds Flash 11 support

AMD has issued a new release of its Catalyst graphics card drivers, bringing the package up to version 11.11. Where last month's 11.10 release was all about Battlefield 3 and Rage performance tweaks, today's highlights include support for Flash Player 11 and its Stage 3D architecture for hardware accelerated graphics rendering, which Adobe says will enable a new class of console-quality games and immersive apps on browsers.

According to the release notes, the new Catalyst 11.11 drivers enable GPU accelerated Stage 3D API and Stage 3D applications across all Radeon HD GPUs as well as A- and E-series APUs. Besides this the new Catalyst release includes updated versions of AMD's display driver, Hydravision for Windows XP through Windows 7, Southbridge/IXP driver and the AMD Catalyst Control Center/AMD Vision Engine Control Center.

As far as bug squashing is concerned AMD mentions it fixed an issue with corrupted images and textures in Rage, corrected bezel compensation for Far Cry 2, fixed screen tearing while moving a window on the desktop in Clone or Eyefinity mode, fixed a black screen issue when extending displays, fixed random crashing of Homefront when Crossfire is enabled, and fixed another crashing issue in DC - Universe Online.

AMD has followed up on their 11.11 release from just a few days ago. The newly relased Catalyst 11.11a "performance" driver addresses a number of performance issues as well as a couple of bugs found in 11.11.

Rage and Skyrim get most of the love from 11.11a, but Batman Arkham City and Battlefield 3 were also singled out with bug fixes. The small number of improvements listed here are in addition to a long list of changes made in 11.11. AMD has since pulled 11.11 from their downloads section and replaced it with 11.11a.

Batman Arkham City

• Fix geometry corruption, sometimes seen in Bash TV entrance

• Fix issue with extreme corruption with missing textures on 32bit systems.
  
• Fix memory leaks when deleting/reusing sync objects.
  
• Fix hitching and pausing, especially noticeable on some Quad Core systems when doing races and Stanley Express runs.
  
• Fix some missing shadows
  

Elder Scrolls Skyrim

• Improves performance 2-7% on single GPU configurations
  
• Resolve corruption seen when enabling Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing on the AMD Radeon HD 6970 Series
  
• Disables CrossFireX (to resolve negative scaling and image quality issues seen when CrossFireX is enabled)
  
• AMD is continuing to work on a CrossFireX solution for Skyrim – as soon as it’s ready we’ll make it publicly available
  

Battlefield 3

• Resolves intermittent corruption seen when playing the game at specific camera angles
  

Noteworthy improvements from the previous 11.11 release include Flash 11 hardware acceleration, various operating system fixes, improved multi-monitor handling and a multitude of game fixes for titles like Dragon Age 2, Shogun 2, Far Cry 2, Rage, Homefront, Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, Civilization V and more

The 11.11a driver package can be downloaded for both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista/7. AMD recommends this release for Radeon 5000 and 6000 HD owners only, however, it should install for most not-so-older chipsets as well. If you have problems getting it installed on your aging board, modded versions are already floating around the web.

Most laptops sporting a Radeon 5000 or 6000 HD series chip are compatible with 11.11a as well, although support will vary from model to model. Toshiba, Panasonic and some Sony laptops are called out specifically for their incompatibility.

AMD Catalyst 12.1a Preview Driver Available

Just at the beginning of 2012, AMD has released Catalyst 12.1a preview driver, which mainly features some improvements for the game Rage.

The updated features of Catalyst 12.1a preview driver

* Improved performance of 5%

* Resolves some new texture corruption issues introduced by the latest version of the game

* Smoother game play and reduces multicore sync points

* Fixed mapbuffer failures when switching maps on 32-bit systems.

* Fixed a game crash when switching maps back and forth on 32 and 64-bit systems

In addition, 11.12CAP2 files offering CrossFire performance improvements for Project C.A.R.S. and Counter Strike: Global Offensive is also let out.

AMD released the first WHQL-signed Catalyst drivers since June. Catalyst 12.8 WHQL is the first unified Catalyst driver certified for Windows 8, its release follows the RTM version of the operating system being available to enterprise and industry customers, ahead of the October 26 consumer retail launch. The driver introduces target-independent rasterization (TIR), an efficient new Direct3D rendering path. The driver also works to improve GPU power consumption. A suite of Windows 8-exclusive features, including native stereo 3D support and unified video API are included. Catalyst 12.8 WHQL also introduces performance-improvements specific to games, including up to 25% performance increase in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, 10% in Dirt 3, 6% in Batman: Arkham City, and 3% in Battlefield 3. Several game-specific bugs were patched.
