As reported earlier, AMD is preparing a scaled-down version of the RV770 graphics processor, called RV770LE. The new graphics core would go into making the Radeon HD 4830 SKU. The new graphics core was created to compete with the GeForce 8800/9800 GT, which seem to be in a comfortable market position owing to their price and price/performance. They are comfortably placed between the GeForce 9600 seties and the 8800 GTS 512M/9800 GTX/GTX+.

AMD has already started projecting the HD 4830 to outperform the the G92GT, in essence, the GeForce 9800 GT. In a slide titled "Best Graphics Card for

Here's the third GeForce 9800 GTX+ non-reference model in the works. Zotac has prepared a graphics card based on the GeForce 9800 GTX+ GPU with its own PCB design. As for cooling, they've employed the expertise of Arctic Cooling, with an Accelero Twin Turbo cooler for the GPU. Zotac may have worked on aspects related to the card's power design and memory, keeping in mind, that the 9800 GTX+ is a 55nm GPU which might draw lower power than its 65nm counterpart, keeping clock speeds constant. It uses clock speeds of 740/1836/2200 MHz (core/shader/memory). Notable PCB features include:

0.8 ns GDDR3 memory chips made by Samsung

A 4+2 phase power design

Power input reduced to a single 6+2 pin PCI-E power connector

We told you that next week, in the last days of Q3 2008, ATI plans to launch the Radeon HD 4350 card. This card is based on an 80 Shader powered RV710 chip.The die, as you can see, looks really small.

It will draw up to 25W and it will make the card very attractive for the HTPC market and most of the cards will be passive. The card comes with DVI and VGA out and it will be extremely cheap. The card has a fan connector, but most cards will come as passive ones, as moving parts such as fans tend to break after some time.

The card has 1,024MB memory and it supports fancy features such as automatic overclocking called Overdrive. On a quad-core 3.0GHz system it can score a respectable 5,400 points in 3Dvantage. This is how the card looks.

There has been an influx of non-reference graphics cards based on the GeForce 9800 GTX+ graphics processor, over the last few weeks. MSI made its addition, with the N9800GTX PLUS-T2D512-OC. Like every other manufacturer making news for releasing such products, MSI designed its own PCB. The cooler chosen has featured on several MSI cards, in the past, including some models based on the GeForce 8800 GT and 9600 GT. This time around, MSI changed the cooler's shroud with a more designer one. This is only a cosmetic change. The cooler remains to be the heatpipe through aluminum fin design.

Unlike the custom design 9800 GTX+ cards from some other manufacturers, MSI released its card factory overclocked. The card ships with clock speeds of 760/1880/2300 MHz (core/shader/memory) against the reference speeds of 738/1836/2200 MHz. The card comes with 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. The package is to include a copy of Rainbow Six Vegas 2. It is to be priced at roughly US $248 in Europe. MSI will be shipping two designs under the same model number and SKU. The first being this, and the other is a 100% reference NVIDIA PCB + Cooler design.

If the 178.15 "inf" file is right, then the G92 based cards, currently known as the Geforce 9800 series, will be renamed to Geforce GTS 1xx, while the midrange G94 based cards, currently branded as the Geforce 9600 and 9500 will be known as the Geforce GT 1x0.

This new naming scheme should hopefully clear up the Nvidia roadmap mess, but this much rebranding is goingto confuse the market even more, especially as GTX, GTS, GT and GS just keep appearing and disappearing in the market.

NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0615.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTS 150"

NVIDIA_G94.DEV_0626.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 130"

NVIDIA_G96.DEV_0646.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 120"

DX11 is expected to bring several substantial advancements over DX10, including the introduction of Shader Model 5.0, as well as GPGPU support and multithreading support, both of which are essential for the graphics industry and the myriad of multi-core graphics cards that exist today. Also, hardware tessellation will be supported by DX11. Hardware tessellation has been supported by ATI cards going back to the 2000 series, but has never been popular with PC game developers. Tessellation, which allows for a low-polygon model to see a real-time increase in polygon density with minimal performance loss, was part of the GPU ATI designed for the Xbox 360, and with DX11, may finally be a feature utilized by PC game developers.

While DX11 is expected to improve visuals over DX10, according to Ars Technica, the bulk of improvement is reserved for "...improving GPU computational capabilities and efficiency in a variety of environments." Now that the software will be in place, we may see the GPGPU become a widespread trend.

While a specific date is not yet clear, we will see a 40nm GPU form ATI sometime in 2009. This means that we will most likely see DX11 cards based on an older manufacturing tech for the time being. While we will wait for 40 nm, ATI did say that GDDR5 will be its dominant memory standard starting next year.

ATI is also looking forward to other advances in the field, including GPGPU support, OpenCL (Open Computer Language), support, and an increase in the number of programs that can utilize GPU computing capabilities effectively. "The push here is to drive the idea of the video card as a computing platform in its own right, out of the supercomputer/HPC arena and into the home," observed Ars Technica.

French site Matbe, posted today photos of the first ATI video card produced by ASUS and branded as Dark Knight edition. This is the third card (correct me if I'm wrong) to go under this relatively new series of ASUS video cards. The EAH4870 DK/HTDI/512M is an ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB GDDR5 memory, a PCI-Express 2.0 interface CrossFireX support and dual-DVI connectivity. Although the Dark Knight nickname suggests boosted clock speeds the card comes at the reference 750MHz GPU and 3600MHz memory speeds. It only features an improved cooling system, that consists of four heatpipes and bigger fan. Early European etailers already price the card at 263 Euro. A Dark Knight HD 4870 with 1GB onboard memory is also rumored to be in the works.

GeForce-9600-GSO-512.jpg

We already know that the updated version GeForce 9600 GSO will use the G94 chip , which will preserve only 48 stream processors. This product will be similar to the GeForce 9600 GT, the memory bus and its volume will remain as before - 256 bits and 512 mb GDDR- 3 .

According to official Nvidia presentation this card will be called GeForce 9600 GSO 512 . The number 512 here reffer to the memory capacity. It is known that the based on G92 version GeForce 9600 GSO had 384 or 768 mb memory and 192- bit bus.

In comparison with GeForce 9600 GT the frequency remained as before - 650/1625/1800 MHz. In essence, the GeForce 9600 GSO 512 differ from the 9600GT only in terms of the smaller stream processors quantity . The GeForce 9600 GSO 512 announcement will be implicit - it will appear simply on sale to the end of the present month.

HIS made an addition to its lineup, with a silent Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. The card is passively cooled by a passive cooler by Zalman, the VNF100. The PCB is sandwiched between parts of the cooler. On the top side of the PCB, is the GPU contact block which has some aluminum fins, while three heatpipes arise from it. The heatpipes convey heat to a large and dense array of alumium fins behind the PCB. With the location of these fins being above the PCB in most installations, better cooling is achieved with air heated by the card moving upwards.

The GPU is clocked at 600 MHz. The card uses 512 MB of DDR2 memory clocked at 1000 MHz. The card has started selling in Europe for 77€.
